Thank you for joining us once again on this issue of your favorite social lens as we join the beautiful Millie Bobby Brown, in this fun adventure of love, conspiracy, and intrigue. With a little martial arts from mother's kitchen (lol).
This movie explores society from the angle of a young woman trying to make it in a man's world. Who runs the world, Beyonce? Well, women still have a chance to make us believers and men still have a chance at redemption. Enjoy reading the life lessons listed below.
- The Downtrodden Woman
Enola (Millie Bobby Brown) is often discriminated and rebuked for threading in places considered only for the masculine gender. Her detective abilities are misconstrued as a rebellion against set practices. Potential clients at her new detective office reject her and asked for her Brother, Sherlock (Henry Cavill). In one occasion, she is rejected from a conversation because she doesn't have a male chaperone.
Oh, our women have come a long way indeed in the struggle for emancipation and feminism, and if you think it belongs only to past times, medieval and 50's, then you should ask female doctors who are still mistaken for nurses by their own patients. The downtrodden woman has been a subject of several reviews on this website including; Frankenstein, Angels of the Sun, The King, Dancing at the Blue Iguana, Yes, God, Yes, Ladies First, and 'The Damned'.
- High Corruption
Turns out the policemen are in on the blackmailing scheme and very much behind all the wrong doings in the movie. Like we mentioned in the movie reviews of Reptile and The RIP. It is a big problem when those who should be a checkmate to something become accomplices or co-conspirators. It might seem like a little gig at getting more money, but the lack of checkmates is the reason why there is still much suffering in third world countries even under democracy. Like in African politics where 'Ghana must-go' bags of money are handed out to silence checkmates.
A lack of contentment is a major problem in our world, a problem that influences corruption, and corruption kills true development. Try to develop contentment with the understanding that there's truly no satisfaction in vanity, only true love and societal balance can fill the void in our hearts.
- Enslaving Labor
Workers at a factory are dying from a harmful substance used in the manufacturing process yet they are reluctant to stop working. This isn't a lesson that's only for the pages of fiction because around the world there are still low-income workers in potentially fatal work settings. In Africa, scaffolding is done with little protective equipment, and there are several dangerous coal mines and gold or diamond fields around the world. There are even harmful substances like lead in some modern factories.
It is a reference not just to the physical enslavement of the masses but also their mental enslavement as well. It brings to mind the problem of balance in our societies, where people only look in one direction for a source of income. It also shows the problem of the bonds of wrongness (see eBook titled 'To Right a Wrong'), where technology that can solve problems also has to have a problem rather than aid in the development of an easier or better life. This enslavement to jobs with terrible health and safety practices is a topic we reviewed in a previous book recommendation titled 'Water for Elephants'.
- Importance of Basic Skills
Enola is taught basic skills in combat technique and she knows a few tricks in life unlike other girls. These skills come handy when she's out investigating and ultimately prove life saving.
It is important for children and young adults to develop a life that's beyond the walls of computer screens and video games. It is important to ensure the development of basic skills like swimming, cycling, lighting a camp fire, driving, or changing a car tire like we mentioned in our review of the movie 'Thrash'.
It also shows the importance of sustaining basic practices in science like how plastics, metal, and glass are made. These basic practices are the backbone of modern and civilized societies, and we should ensure that they are never lost to time. Just like we mentioned in our review of the movie 'A House of Dynamite'.
- Importance of Societal Balance
The workers are reluctant to stop working because there are no options. This is a life lesson on the importance of social balance. A balanced society creates options and helps eliminate or reduce enslaving practices. If workers have options, then employers would ensure that work policies assist work-life balance and develop health and safety practices to help workers cope and thrive with the company.
The welfare of your workers enhances your company both in goodwill and innovation, because workers would be more committed to a company that keeps them happy. Rather than one where they look for every opportunity to swindle or defraud the company. Which can lead to cutting corners, or siphoning company materials for personal use. Imagine a bakery where the manager siphons two in every five bags of sugar to his home. The quality of your products would soon reduce and your customers would favor other bakeries.
- Strength in Unity
When the women who are exploited, by the men in the factory, finally come together like a union movement, the men succumb to their demands. It shows the strength in unity, and its not that we don't already know. Because everyone knows the proverb of breaking a single broomstick versus the whole bunch. However, in reality we tend to unify over the wrong purposes or in solidarity with a cause that isn't really in the benefit of our human race journey.
A single worker would probably die of starvation if they leave in a low-income economy, but if all the workers leave, the company would beg and reconsider. The unity of women would strengthen men who stand with love and reject the systems that take advantage of the bonds on love. Just like Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), finally assists in prosecuting his corrupt Uncle. There truly is strength in unity, even more so, when it's inline with the divine blueprint towards a better world.
