- Funny Tragedies
Funny scenes centering on Marcus' (Eric Andre) tragedies, include falling through a roof, falling out a window, falling down the stairs, and getting hit by moving vehicles.
Funny tragic events in movies are an indirect symbolism of, or a sarcastic reference to, the wrongness in our world. A world which is marred by people who openly and unremorsefully profit from other people's tragedy or misfortune. From profiting on the spoils of war, to getting rich on selling hard drugs, we neglect the 'little brother'. We also discussed this inhumane trait of man in the review of 'The Marked Woman'.
- Unlovable Madness
Marcus has sex with a girl while her boyfriend watches both indoors and in public to the admiration of the neighbors. When Rudd (John Cena) complains to his wife about the desecration of his library, her reply is nonchalant. Her nonchalant response symbolizes the normality of the occurrence. But is it normal, that a man's love is fucked while he watches?
In our abnormal world, normal is abnormal. As people try to withstand the bonds against love by building an unemotional approach to life, and women try to reject the bonds against love by indulging in humiliating practices. All under the guise of civilization, trendy, and fashionable. We have accepted madness and termed it modernization and freedom. This point is duly acknowledged in the subsequent scene when Rudd reveals Marcus' psychiatric wristband tag.
We have lost touch with what our world should be, because we are misguided into thinking that fun only exists on the plains of wrongness. But a man can have fun with his lady and easily push her to orgasm if she hasn't had a history of gangbang passings and train wreck experiences, wouldn't he?
- Lil Kim Chi
'Call me Lil Kim Chi', Mia (Sherry Cola) says to Marcus after strategically presenting herself as someone he has so much in common with.
In reality, when a woman goes out to win a man, she usually does. It's a beautiful thing to see a woman decide whom to love, without being coerced or intimidated. Its a symbol of freedom and the independence of the feminine figure. However, it is also commonly exploited by both women and men.
There are many instances where a woman is sent to ruin a man or when a woman decides to ruin a man by first pretending to love them, and many men have fallen to the deceit of pretended love. Anyways, give or take, women have the power to cure love and reclaim the balance in our world. The onus is on you, my queens. Would you make the world better in proper balance or assist in its fall by the destruction of love?
- Intoxication
Rudd sniffs on some hard drugs at the request of his big brother, Josh (Christopher Meloni), but no one else accepts to join in on the vice.
There are two lessons here. Firstly, if someone encourages, motivates, or offers something to you, it doesn't necessarily mean the person does it too. The person could be a secret enemy trying to ruin or defeat you. Alternatively, the person could just be a sinister prankster. Don't accept everything, you don't owe any explanation for doing what's good for you.
Secondly, Rudd spirals into a psychotic state as is characteristic of people under the influence of drugs. Such characteristics include exaggerated reasoning, clouded judgement, mental breakdown and loss of composure. Hard drugs can turn your life upside down. Just like we reviewed in the movies, '72 Hours', and 'Four Good Days'.
- The Indirect Symbolism
Keith (Tony Torn) welcomes Marcus back to the rehabilitations center with a statement; 'I gave you a vagina'. Although, he was referring to the dummy of Marcus which kept him company, there is also an indirect symbolism in that statement.
Men who fall for the sarcastic attempt at bearing the bonds of wrongness are indirectly mocked. Rather than work for the restoration of feminine dignity, some men succumb to the pressures of being ostracized, deprived, or embarrassed and bluntly decide to join in the fray, and yet some others decide to become the fray.
'I gave you a vagina'... If you know, you know.
That's our take on this funny comedy with lots of meanings and social inferences. Its a good laugh, with a little ting of guilt as it asks questions on responsibility, humility, kindness, and honesty.
