Black Rabbit restaurant welcomes a new staff, the brother of its owner and manager, Jake. The events that follow create a thrill worthy of the thrillers genre. This mini series is a story of life and the burden of relationships, and it has lots of messages that resonate with our perspective.
In our usual fashion, we have listed the subliminal messages and life lessons. We hope you find them thought provoking and insightful.
- Don't Jump To Conclusion
When Vince (Jason Bateman) meets with Jake (Jude Law) after having been robbed, Jake asks Vince; 'What did you do'? Vince replies; 'Did it ever occur to you that I didn't do anything, that it wasn't my fault'.
Let's put this lesson in proper perspective using a personal example; I heard the spirit of God while I was smoking marijuana at the back of my father's house a few years ago. I wrote about this experience in the eBooks. However, I recently realized that people think I'm just insane by claiming marijuana is the inspiration behind my messages.
Understand this!!! I never said I had to smoke to become connected to the spirit. I only mentioned that it was the first time I became conscious of it. After which, I finally made a decision to be sober. I have been sober for up to 7 years. Yet, people still assume that I'm only insane from drugs without objectively accessing the importance of my messages.
Don't jump to conclusion, don't assume, don't stereotype people or experiences because everyone has something to offer, if only you can try to see the right perspective. It doesn't have to be tangible, it could be a lesson to not make a mistake. Even a dead clock is right twice a day.
- A Distraction
Vince is doing bad in life, especially in his finances. His interests in the illegal drug circles and gambling have him indebted without an asset. His initial hope appears to be the sale of their mother's house.
Imagine that! Not only is he indebted for nothing, he also needs to sell his inheritance to pay for nothing. Addictive vices like hard drugs, gambling, and porn are like a suctioning void that keeps pulling till there's nothing worthwhile left of you. This is in addition to the mental enslavement it causes. Be wise and chose sobriety. There are so many other ways to have fun.
- Blame Yourself
Vince argues with Jake about the burden he bears. He turns defensive about his misfortunes, the gangsters threatening him, his bare feet, and his general situation. He seems to suggest that none of it is his fault.
In life, blame yourself. It's not a depressive self loathing perception, but rather an accountable one. For example; If you lost a fortune gambling, don't blame the table, blame yourself for being a gambler. If you did poorly in academics, don't blame the system, blame yourself for not studying adequately or for choosing the wrong course or school.
Be accountable and responsible to yourself, because it will help you adjust yourself in your own favor.
- Exploited Feminine
Anna (Abbey Lee) is sacked from her bartending position because she misses two shifts at the Black Rabbit. Unknown to Jake, she had suffered an episode of sexual exploitation without consent. It appeared to be a willing endeavor, but she couldn't reconcile with why she did it in the morning.
Strange as it may sound, there are many ladies who have suffered from the bonded and commanded acceptance of degrading and humiliating sexual experiences. Women who have been commanded to do obscene things that they later couldn't reconcile as a sane decision. Like being bonded to stay in a doggy position till men satisfy their sexual appetites without any regards. How about the ladies who go nude in public while behaving like a dog, or receiving painful whippings and floggings in sex dungeons?
All these are insane experiences that can't be reconciled with man's true purpose or the natural process of things, which includes the rights of the feminine. Furthermore, they are like a slur to the weak and powerless men who can't partake of such obscenities and who can do nothing to defend the women they should love. What cure can we offer to lovers who can't be bonded to systems that enslave women?
- The Ego Challenge
Matt (Don Harvey) comes to rile up Vince's ego by asking; 'Doesn't that chaffer up your nuts, taking orders from your brother'? This was while Vince was trying to put his life back together with the help of his brother.
In life, when you try to fix yourself or uplift yourself by letting go of vices and draining habits, you might have to go down before you can ascend. Things might get rough and uncomfortable at the initial stages but it'd get better as you build better resilience and focus.
During the downtimes remember that your vices and draining habits are an advantage or are profitable businesses to someone else. Therefore, be mindful of the ego challenge that often comes as humiliating comments or experiences. Because they only seek to dampen your resolve and weaken your spirit.
