Our reviews are not limited by Genre and this amazing action flick starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Woody Harrelson provides ample avenues for life lessons. Enjoy reading.
- Never Leave Your Drink Unattended
Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is drugged by Stephen (Michiel Huisman) whom she has a one night stand with.
In reality, it is important to never leave your drink unattended at a bar, party, or any other public place. It is not even advisable to leave unfinished drinks in a shared apartment or hostel fridge. This includes when sharing drinks with strangers and if you have to use the washroom while having a drink, either drink it all first, or get a new one when you return to your table. Don't be too bothered by what your friends think because it might be your life on the line.
People often have sinister motives which you might be totally oblivious to. Otherwise it won't be sinister, would it?
Who knows if the mid night accidents are caused by spiked drinks of unwilling innocents returning from a club? We established the importance of this lesson in the review of 'Carry-On'.
- Manipulative Partnerships
Varrick (Woody Harrelson) orchestrated Kate's poisoning and when things spiraled out of control, he also manipulated Ani (Miku Martineau) with the bitter truth.
Trust is a heavy price that we shouldn't expect from most people because people tend to act in their own favor when the odds are down. So be careful who or what you rely fully on. Especially when the secret or partnership is enough to tear you down.
- The Price of Vengeance
Kate spends her last moments fighting to revenge her own murder. It's a bit ironic because she's a trained assassin, a murderer by profession. Isn't it counter productive that she seeks retribution for being killed herself?
In reality, duo it made a nice action storyline, it is important to know what is truly important, and what is truly important is what makes you happy, not necessarily your ego. Do not waste your strengths or moments seeking retribution or vengeance for some past hurt, rather look to the future and make the best of it.
- Impossible to Teach
Kate can't convince Ani to not take the same path she took with Varrick, and Ani leaves with Varrick despite her pleas.
In reality, life lessons are almost impossible to teach. Parents find it difficult building virtues in their kids. Teenagers and young adults rebel against the truth in favor of debauchery, because it's more fun and adds excitement to life.
The proper way of life appears impossible to teach because those who stay on the right path feel cheated out of fun and excitement. Moreover, there are very few role models for good.
In such instances, work life balance and a system of pleasurable rewards can help trigger and motivate good virtues and ultimately help such people overcome the wrong feelings of being cheated. Its a long shot, but what if the fate of the world depended on it. Wouldn't you say it was worth a try?
