Hidden meanings in Film noir: CARRY-ON (2024) - Life goes on, with many more doors ...

Thank you for joining us once again on this forage into the mind and mentality of the humanoids A.K.A. Homosapien sapien. In this issue our focus is the movie titled Carry-On. Oh this one was good! Our hero is an unlikely airport security inspector with a sweetheart he's willing to do everything for. Enjoy reading the life lessons listed below.

  • Stolen Dreams
Nora (Sofia Carson) persuades Ethan (Taron Egerton) to reapply for the police force, stating that it was the only time he felt excited about his life. Have you ever really wanted something but then suddenly forgot all about it? Have you ever felt apprehensive and anxious about getting something that you almost feel relieved when you don't get it?
In reality, most people go through various phases in life where they get attracted to different pursuits, goals or causes. Sometimes we lose those sequences because they weren't meant for us, other times we lose them because they were stolen. Yes stolen! Isn't it absurd that its possible to steal another person's goal or ambition and leave the person feeling hollow or lack luster towards what they previously felt so agitated about? We have mentioned the obscene abilities of the demonic side of life to enslave the angelic men with wanking in the reviews of 'The Damned' and 'London Boulevard'.
On the other hand, it could also mean that the goal wasn't a natural addition to your life's path, hence you felt agitated about it. Some individuals prey on such instances, substituting themselves for the eager under the pretense of destroying the special feelings. Yet, others use the unholy wanking stealing to substitute themselves or steal the impending success of unsuspecting ignorant individuals. Carry on, and don't let the things you lose get you down, because life goes on and there are many more doors to open.
  • Drive Safely
Elena (Danielle Deadwyler) almost runs into an obvious fire truck and security officers while texting and driving. Don't text and drive is one of the basic warnings to drivers these days, yet most people overlook it. Practice safe driving, don't text while on the steering wheel. There's nothing more urgent than safe guarding your life or the life of someone you might hit. Most of us ignore simple warnings because we always feel like it couldn't happen to us. Isn't it weird that even as a police officer, Elena still goes against a simple traffic rule?
Sometimes the fraternity and societal bonds of accepting wrongness makes people reject precautionary measures. It is therefore important to live according to your own standards, not inline with a trend. Most trends are misdirecting towards being rebellious. However, the usual promoters of trends have abilities that not everyone that copies or follows have. Look inwards and guide yourself because what you see in the world might not mean well for you.

  • Selfish or Loving
Ethan is blackmailed over the phone by a strange voice with the threat that his girlfriend, Nora, would be killed if he doesn't comply with their directives to get a contraband bag onto the plane. He complies and goes along with the instructions. Despite his many attempts at reporting or gaining attention, it still brings to mind the question of his true intentions. Are his intentions out of love or selfishness? When it comes down to the wire in such situations is it love to try to protect the one you love by complying or is it selfish to put the lives of so many other people in danger. Remember, you're not the only one in love and there are many lovers and families on board the plane, why then should your love be more important than their safety?
Besides, in the thick of the action when his own life was in danger of being shot, he fights and runs bravely to avoid death and ignores the earpiece. Like dude, that's the spirit!

  • Denialism
Ethan finally meets Traveler (Jason Bateman) and he asks the most ridiculous question; 'Tell me there isn't something horrible in that bag?'. How ridiculous does that sound! The criminal just murdered your colleague in front of your face and you're still emotionally conflicted regarding the dubious content of the bag. Of cause its something horrible, why else would he have to smuggle it? Maybe its a contraband or at worse a bomb?
Most of us are in self denial, a sought of cognitive dissonance. We see the truth glaring at our faces but we choose to make excuses, until it hurts us real bad before we accept. We fail to take precautions in due time because of denialism which is just an indirect form of procrastination and irresponsibility. We see societal evils like women being brutalized and maltreated and we say to ourselves, 'oh they are just having fun'. We see kids suffering on the street and we say to ourselves, 'oh such mischievous children'. We see religious clerics take advantage of the poor and ignorant and we say, 'oh he's strengthening their faith'. We see politicians with criminal backgrounds and associations and we say 'boy, don't we need a strong leader'. Our world suffers because of the mental acceptance of wrongness and denialism that it doesn't hurt us directly. Sooner or later what we deny is gonna hurt and its gonna hurt real bad. We can still fix our affairs.

  • Never Leave Your Drink Unattended
Jason (Sinqua Walls) is given the sack, after Ethan switches his coffee for one laced with alcohol at the airport inspection line. Never leave your drink unattended at the bar, at a party, in public, heck don't leave unfinished drinks in a shared apartment or hostel fridge. It doesn't matter how close the friendship or relationship is because time and time again people have proven that they hide sinister intentions. Even a prank of lacing a drink with intoxicating substance could have implications more far reaching than you think. The only people permitted access to your unfinished drink shouldn't be beyond your nuclear family, and even the nuclear family can be toxic these days.

That's our take on this beautiful and refreshing action movie. We hope you gained a thing or two from our review. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your week.
