This movie's comic scenes and exciting sequences makes it a fun watch and quite thrilling too. We gathered a couple of social inferences and life lessons from it and we hope you enjoy reading our review. Thank you for stopping by.
- Overcoming Stereotypes
Kevin (Jahi Di'Allo Winston) doesn't scream or run when he encounters the ghost, Ernest (David Harbour). Instead, he sets out to know the ghost for himself and this enables his family build a relationship that later reveals the truth.
Stereotypes keep us stuck in mentally enslaving loops that sometimes hides truths vital to social progress. It is important to not develop a judgmental attitude towards things based on historical accounts, rather have an objective view and be open minded towards new situations. You just might discover something that would be life changing for everyone.
- Problem and Opportunity
The craze and addiction of social media is brought to light in this movie. On one hand, it presents the addictive problem of being insensitive just for an opportunity to go viral, but on the other hand it shows the productive possibilities of engaging an audience on social media.
In reality, people do crazy things, dangerous things, and insensitive things just to go viral or to join in a trend. For example, there are high attitude jumpers who have died trying to video themselves going viral. Nicki Minaj's viral pose became so big that doctors released a statement warning young women of the hazards of posing like her.
Too much of everything is bad, so lets always be conscious of the dangers and risks of things while we enjoy the trends.
- Correcting the Hurt
Fixing the ghost, Ernest's memories and bringing his murderer to justice finally frees Ernest who had haunted the house for over 50 years.
In reality, there are many repeating loops, cycles, or groundhog day phenomenon in our society. Its not just about a ghost stuck in time, but also social repetitions. For example, world war II can be considered a repetition of world war I in a certain sense. In this perspective, we are referring to social unrests, turmoil, or dissatisfying experiences that repeat themselves and hinder humanity from its full potentials. Just like we explained in our review of 'Wednesday'. If we can fix these cycles by correcting the hurts and overcoming stereotypes, the truth would be revealed and life would be much better for everyone.
- The Iceberg Effect
People hurt themselves running into brick walls as they try to mimic the ghost's video.
In reality, many people jump on social trends trying to equally do what ever had gone viral. Sometimes it doesn't take much to copy, but there are times when copying such trends can be risky.
It is important to know that there are many things that become successfully viral only after many hours of practice and trials. Therefore, don't forget the iceberg effect, which means many unseen efforts before a final result of success. Don't get too drawn in or carried away, like the people in this movie. Even wrestling videos come with a warning 'Don't try this at home'.
Thank you to the acting cast and production crew of this funny movie. Oh boy, 'Erica Ash' Lol... Most people would probably faint.
