Hidden meanings in Film noir: WICKED (2024) - Everyone is represented among everyone...

Stunning images from a fantastic musical and terrific performances by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande (the one with the cute bum). Wicked is the classic Dorothy and Wizard of Oz tale, retold from an ugly duckling perspective. Its entirely different and quite pleasing to see. Dances, music, humor, and action its got it all. As usual, we focus on the life lessons, hidden meanings, and morals that you might have missed while viewing this beautiful movie.

  • Tolerance
Elphaba faces discrimination because she looks different and she's often ostracized. Furthermore, there's some initial loathing for no reason between Glinda and Elphaba. In reality our intolerance for each other is just a symbol of our ignorance, because as we have revealed, everyone has a different version of themselves among all the races. Everyone is represented among everyone to symbolize that our racial differences truly should be a thing of beauty. Its the classic ugly duckling tale for Elphaba, who later turns out to be quite powerful.

  • Not Really Strange
There is an anthropomorphic Goat who's a professor, and a musical band made of animals, there's magic and guard monkeys. So you find yourself wondering, 'what's so strange about Elphaba'? Watch out for people who unnecessarily act like you're strange, ostracize you, and try to keep you demoralized just so you can have low self-esteem. In truth they only seek to control you, rule you, or convent what truly belongs to you. Such people are toxic to your development and you should pay less attention to them.

  • Validation or Self-Assurance
Glinda is portrayed as an insecure student, constantly seeking approval from the Dean of Sorcery Studies, Madame Morrible. All she gets is Morrible's dismissive responses, which can be interpreted in two ways; either as belittlement or motivation. Let us draw motivation from Marianne Williamson's quote in her 1992 book, "A Return to Love"; "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us"
That's the summation of all we need to explain. We should learn to self access and discover our true purpose, to look inwards and draw strength from what we are already divinely programmed with. No one can be better at being us, than we can. This doesn't mean we should neglect education or mentorship but rather we should learn to self explore and discover our true potential.
Be like the African Agama Lizard, when you fall from a wall and survive the fall, nod your head and congratulate yourself cos you don't need external validation. What you need is self assurance.

  • Unmask the Fear
OZ is a normal being hiding behind a huge scary mask. Like most tribal masquerades and cultural tools used to place people under fear and oppression, there's a little trick behind their manifestation. That trick is you. Fear is a tool, only if you partake of its use. We described this in our review of the movies 'Wrong Turn' and 'The House on Fin Street'. We condone, tolerate, and accept systems of fear. Sometimes we appear to benefit from its immediate use, because it keeps others under control and gives us more reward, but we are only being myopic. In the long run societies raised on fear become very imbalanced and ultimately crash. Take the veil of fear of your life and society, and the barriers to development would be nothing but mere pebbles that can be cast off. There is no leader that's powerful without his people, no president without citizens. We must prioritize true development over personal gain.
