Don't get carried away by the rambunctious assets on display in this one, Paprika can leave your pants bulging without a touch.
Paprika (1991) starring Debora Caprioglio as Paprika is a tale of deceit and betrayal under the guise of love. Paprika's sojourn in the brothels and harems of Italy is cleverly orchestrated by men pretending to be lovers. This Film Noir exposing the vulnerability of our young girls.
It's easy to get carried away by all the apparent fun and laughter in the movie's scenes but here are some strong societal symbolisms you might have missed.
- The deceit of the system: The movie starts off with Paprika's boyfriend encouraging her to become a prostitute in a brothel. This is symbolic of the tactics for the destruction of love used by system boys. Who pretend to love a girl only for the opportunity to introduce them to a network of sex slavery to be sold. The boys only do it because they hope to be the next set of senior members who would also buy the next generation of girls.
Her boyfriend (Nino) promises her that it would only be for 15 days, then he takes off, living her to bear the blame. This presents a wrong perception of Paprika preferring to be a prostitute.
The brothel manager, madam Collete, welcomes Paprika, tells her the rules and introduces her to the rest of the prostitutes at the brothel. Here, the girls talk about the hand signals used to request for different types of sex. Two fingers for double penetration, and three fingers for threesomes. This provides insight into the hidden tenets of the system which works for the destruction of love, as initiates can signal themselves in requests to have sex and for the amount to be paid.
The girls also acknowledge sexual slavery when they ask Paprika if she has an old man that collects her money.
- The destruction of love: Paprika is take to the doctor for observation before she resumes work in the brothels, this is quite ironic as brothel customers are unchecked and numerous, according to Madame Collete 'A day in the brothel is more than 10 years outside'. The doctor warns her that she'd never leave the brothel, and that some of the customers don't use condoms.
The doctor inserts a condom with his hands into Paprika's vagina in acknowledgement of the fact that brothel workers are destroyed before they are permitted to sell themselves for the uninitiated fools. Paprika also acknowledges that she's not supposed to feel satisfied by her customers. This is to symbolize the bonds on women to not get satisfaction from their customers and sometimes, women are bonded to not be satisfied by their husbands, so women sometimes pretend to not enjoy sex with their spouse, so they do not activate this bond of sex slavery.
Paprika is passed from one customer to another till her pretty hair looks a mess and she's so exhausted, yet more customers come to have a go at Paprika.
- The blindness of fools: While Paprika's boyfriend receives an income from her sex slavery in a brothel, another guy (Franco) is trying to make her fall in love by becoming a regular customer. He foolishly acknowledges that all the beautiful women are in the brothels. This is in acknowledgement that girls in their sexual prime are hidden from the 'fools'. Most fools do not know about the compulsory dirty dancing and stripping that young women are made to go through in society. This primitive practices have spoiled the balance in the natural flow of things in our world.
Also, at a low grade brothel, where the women are deemed unattractive to system boys, there are still men who are willing to pay for them. However, some play really weird and painful games with the girls because they are no longer hold sexual appeal.
In reality, most young girls are on sale by the system and the wise (or rather unwise) know that they do not need to visit a brothel to pay for sex.
- The innocence of young women: Paprika catches her boyfriend Nino, at a dinner with another lady, and it dawns on her that he was never interested in her love, but only in the benefits from her sales. Learning from this experience, Paprika adamantly decides to no longer be interested in love, and chooses to focus only on making money at the brothel. This only fulfils the doctors warning that she'd never leave. Nino reveals his true intentions by demanding 60% of Paprika's income, which is already a reduction of 50% by the brothel. Paprika is now subject to blackmail for being involved in illegal sexual activities.
- Brutality to women: The movie symbolizes the brutality to women through forced sexual slavery. In one scene, a pimp shows up at the brothel just to beat up his slave called Frufru, because she made a payment without his consent. This just goes to show the extent of enslavement and entrapment of young girls in our society.
Paprika is almost flogged with a cane by the madame in a brothel because she refuses to indulge in a painful experience with a customer.
- Love is forbidden: Paprika gets introduced to a higher ring of prostitutes in rome, where she's given an initiation bath by the madame Olimpia. Paprika gets carried away by the seductive bath scrubs and mutters 'I love you' but she gets scolded by Madame Olimpia. This served to symbolize that love is forbidden in the system of sex slavery.
In another instance, when Paprika is rescued by a Pimp from her uncle, she says 'I love you', but the pimp quickly withdraws his hands from her.
- We are hypocrites: Paprika's uncle stumbles on her at the new brothel and he shames her for choosing a job like this. In reality, the job exists because of men like him who turn up to pay, because if there are no fools to pay for prostitutes, then there would be no need for sex slavery. This is especially critical when you consider sex trafficking and kidnapping schemes that exploit underage children.
Not only does her uncle fuck her, he also becomes a frequent non-paying customer and starts trying to blackmail her into giving him money.
- No benefits: At a higher level of prostitution, Paprika is also introduced to hard drugs which would help drain the money she thinks she's making. In the playboy mansion, Paprika is disgraced as soon as the rich playboy finishes with her. This is to symbolize that the system doesn't really care about the girls. In addition, Paprika's companion becomes sick and catches a terminal disease, which leads to her death. Paprika's life is threatened as she decides to leave the brothel. This symbolizes the demonic spirituality of tapping the essence of Angelic girls through sex as a way of amassing wealth. The movie clearly shows an irresponsible rich playboy who has amassed wealth from such activities.
After, Paprika invests in Franco's new boat, Franco turns out to be a fraudster and elopes with Paprika's investments, thus, Paprika is returned to a worse brothel where the prostitutes often get molested. This is to symbolize that truly there's no benefit from the system.
- The slave wife: The entrapment of Angelic women by the Demonic bond carriers is also expressed in a scene. Paprika and a friend are sold to a master playboy who lives with his wife in a mansion, but the wife is only a humiliated slave for the pleasure of her master. This in reality is a reflection of the entrapment of Angelic women as slaves to the system based on a demonic tenet which stipulates that 'Love is forbidden' and 'Angelic do not benefit'.
However, the Archangelic are so high, that the demonic enslavers also need to symbolize that they are servants and more disgraced by their bonds. In the scene, we see the rich playboy open his mouth to drink from Paprika's pee. We also see a male customer getting fucked in the ass to symbolize that he's also receiving the disgrace he puts women true. This fact is also symbolized in Emma Stone's movie 'Poor things', where matured men behave like monkeys just because they want to partake of her disgrace.
Paprika is made a countess and upon receiving congratulations from a brothel customer, the customer is rebuked that she isn't free. This is to symbolize that becoming a countess was just an extension of her enslavement and entrapment.
Nonetheless, symbolizing disgracefulness is not an excuse to continue with the enslavement and entrapment of women.
- Societal decadence: The decadence in the society is symbolized in Paprika, as a guest at a ball, is quickly given two good rounds of doggy style to the admiration of the other guests, before she dirty dances to their delight. However, the wrongness of this purported freedom is symbolized by the madame of the mansion pouring her drink on Paprika's dress. The madame Josephine however feels embarrassed as Paprika expresses no shame in being nude before the guests. This serves to symbolize that the enslavement and entrapment only gets worse as no one does anything about it. This fact is also portrayed in the movie Nymphomaniac where the storyteller's daughter pees on her face before having sex with a pimp, while she lays on the ground beaten to a pulp.
- Other symbolism
The movie symbolizes the rampant abortions among young girls who serve a system where no one cares.
The movie symbolizes the pretense of the system boys to marry women when they finish serving the system. This is symbolized by Paprika working half-naked in what looks like a wedding dress hand-in-hand with a male. In reality, women do get husbands from the system, but the husbands also have a right to buy sex from younger females, so it really isn't much of a sacrifice.
The suitor dances with Paprika seductively lifting her dress and showing it to the camera. This is to symbolize the humiliation of women through nudity as a way of destroying love.
At the dance, Paprika sees Franco, who became a regular customer at her first brothel, and she runs off with him, hoping to win him back with sexual pleasure. Afterall, who wouldn't prefer a loving person to humiliation and betrayal.
The state of the women in the low grade brothel serves to symbolize that women aren't released from enslavement and entrapment until they become unattractive (skanky) and unlovable. The brothel also symbolizes the enslavement and entrapment of women by placing them behind iron bars.
In the closing scene, Paprika is surrounded by a group of men who grope and molest her, while she whines seductively and invitingly to their touch. This is to symbolize the final humiliation of women, which is usually a gangbang, before they are released from enslavement and entrapment to be wedded to fools in society. This is definitely Film Noir exposing the ills in society!!!
